| Since this is the beginning of a new year, I thought I would share with you something that I have actually been doing for several years, but I don’t always share. Sooo, you are probably wondering what Healing Touch is. It’s a little different from therapeutic massage. An official definition is: Healing Touch is an energy healing therapy in which practitioners consciously use their hands in a heart-centered and intentional way to enhance, support and facilitate physical, emotional, mental and spiritual health and self-healing. Healing Touch utilizes light or near-body touch to clear, balance and energize the human energy system in order to promote health and healing for mind, body, and spirit.
You know that our bodies are not just our muscles and organs. Our bodies also hold our emotions and our spirit. I’m sure i have talked to you about how our emotions and our stresses shows up in our muscles and that affects our whole being. Healing Touch works on the energy field that is beyond your body that affects your body. I have been a part of a volunteer organization called Lifespark that paired cancer patients with Healing Touch practitioners and Rieki masters to help them through the cancer treatments. It is non-invasive and relaxing. I have done the mind clearing routine on some of you which is light touch and great for headaches.
One thing that attracted me to Healing Touch versus other energy work was that the program was put together by a nurse, Janet Mentgen, who noticed that patients in the hospital who received energy work before or after surgery healed faster. She researched different types of energy work from around the world and integrated them into a curriculum that is taught to all Healing Touch students, so that there is a standard and compliments conventional health care. Healing Touch is endorsed by both the American Holistic Nurses Association and the Canadian Holistic Nurses Association and is more accepted in hospitals.
Let me tell you what to expect. You would lay on your back, either on top or under blankets. We would talk about what your intensions would be for the session. This could be “My knees have been hurting” or “I want to release the tension I have been feeling about my job”. You would close your eyes and relax. You don’t have to close your eyes, I’m not hiding anything from you and you can watch if you want, but it is more relaxing that way. I would hold your feet for a moment and then I would do some balancing and opening movements either a few inches off your body or lightly touch. This is just a simple explanation and I will go into a little more detail next month.
If you are interested in having this kind of work done, it can be a 30 minute or 60 minute session at the same cost as a massage. It can also be added into a 60 minute or 90 minute massage. Just let me know at the beginning of the massage that you are interested. I have completed the 3rd level out of 5 in Healing Touch actually a year and a half ago and I find that I both love to do the work and also get a lot out of having it done on me.
